Dr Detlef Mäders’ advisory practice focuses in particular on competition and trade mark law, as well as other areas of intellectual property law (e.g. design law, anti-counterfeiting law) and telecommunications law.
Dr Detlef Mäder studied law in Freiburg, Germany, from 1989 to 1994 and completed his first bar examination in 1994. He worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute in Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg and at the University of Cologne from 1994 to 1996. During this time, he completed his dissertation and was awarded his doctor's degree (Dr. jur). from the University of Freiburg in 1996. He was admitted to the bar in 1998 and joined Luther’s predecessor law firm in 1996. Dr Detlef Mäder has been a Partner at Luther since 2005 and is head of Cologne office since 1 June 2014.
Dr Detlef Mäder has comprehensive experience in advising clients on unfair competition law as well as on all matters of intellectual property law. In this regard, he represents his clients in both litigation and out-of-court proceedings, on a national and international level. He has extensive experience in cases involving patent infringement proceedings as well as trademark and unfair competition law matters. Dr Detlef Mäder is also registered as a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and represents clients in proceedings before this court. Furthermore, he advises on all aspects of patent and design law, disputes concerning counterfeiting, press law, and copyright cases.
Moreover, his practice focuses on enforcement through preliminary injunctions, inspection proceedings, and all IP-related contractual matters, such as license agreements. Dr Detlef Mäder also regularly acts as a speaker at various lectures and professional events in his areas of expertise.
