Luther joins Association for Contracts for Difference

Banking Team intensifies cooperation with German derivative sector. Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH has joined the German “CFD-Verband e.V.” (Association for Contracts for Difference). Luther is the first law firm becoming a member of the association which already includes eleven banks and financial institutions.

Background

With this move, Luther will intensify the professional exchange of information with companies in the financial and derivative sector and it will contribute its expertise to discussions on current legal issues regarding financial products.

Ingo Wegerich, partner at Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft and head of the practice group Banking and Capital Markets, says: “We are delighted to be the first law firm to join CFD-Verband. It is no coincidence that Luther takes on the pioneering role. Luther maintains excellent relationships to the financial and derivative sector, provides legal advice to several big players and increasingly positions itself on the market as a banking and finance law firm.”

Niklas Helmreich, Chairman of CFD-Verband says: “Luther’s legal expertise with derivatives is highly valued in the market. Therefore we are extremely pleased that Luther has joined as a sustaining member.”

Luther‘s Banking Team is specialised on derivatives and structured financial products. Luther provides issuance programmes for (structured) bonds for several renowned market players and advises on all legal issues regarding derivatives and structured financial products, including their distribution. With regard to contracts for difference, Luther advises financial institutions for example on the drafting of risk disclosure statements for CFD trading and of customer information as well as on transactions in the field of CFD.

About CFD-Verband

Founded in 2008, CFD-Verband sees itself as an umbrella organisation and branch representative for the providers of “contracts for difference” (CFD). Contracts for difference belong to the group of derivative financial instruments. The association wants to increase the public understanding of the necessity, the functioning and the possible applications of contracts for difference, as well as of the opportunities and risks of using them. Moreover, the association’s responsibilities include the educational work at a political and regulatory level and the representation of the financial industry’s interests.

The CFD market in Germany is growing steadily. In 2014, the volume traded rose by 30.8 % to 1.483 billion euros.

Besides Luther, the association includes eleven members: biw Bank, CeFDex AG, CMC Markets, comdirect Bank AG, Commerzbank Aktiengesellschaft, Ayondo Markets (formerly Gekko Global Markets), flatex GmbH, FX Flat, OnVista-Bank, S Broker AG & Co. KG and ViTrade.
