Luther advises Olympic show jumping champion Ludger Beerbaum on partnership with international private equity investment group

Cologne - The international show jumping company Ludger Beerbaum Stables GmbH has entered into a strategic partnership with Waterland Private Equity and their Danish portfolio company Helgstrand Dressage. For this purpose, Ludger Beerbaum Stables has transferred its business to the Global Equestrian Group. Ludger Beerbaum Stables was comprehensively advised by Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft on the deal.

Background

Waterland will be the majority shareholder of the newly established partnership. In total, the Global Equestrian Group will employ more than 150 people, be present in four countries and have a turnover of over EUR 60 million. In addition to the aspects surrounding the transfer of the business of Ludger Beerbaum Stables and the formation of the new Global Equestrian Group, real estate law issues in connection with heritable building right contracts and leases also played an important role in the transaction. Ludger Beerbaum will continue to be the Managing Director of the Group’s German activities.

Ludger Beerbaum Stables is an internationally recognised show jumping company with a sports and trading stable, a stallion station and the equestrian centre Riesenbeck International. The company was founded by four-time Olympic show jumping champion Ludger Beerbaum.

Helgstrand Dressage is a portfolio company of Waterland Private Equity. It breeds, promotes and sells dressage horses worldwide. The company with operations in Denmark, Germany and the USA was founded by Danish dressage rider and Olympic bronze medal winner Andreas Helgstrand and has sold more than 800 horses since its inception in 2008.
