Areas of Practice

Frank Wilbert has many years' experience advising German and international clients on asset management as well as investment and insurance supervisory law.

The main focus of his work is advising institutional investors, in particular also investors regulated by insurance supervisory law, on complex fund investments in AI asset classes private equity, private debt, infrastructure, sustainable, real estate and timber and hedge funds.

Furthermore, he advises on the structuring and establishment of regulated and non-regulated domestic and foreign funds and other investment products as well as the establishment of investment platforms.

Frank Wilbert was born in 1980. He studied law in Bonn (Germany). After completing his first state exam in 2004, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Civil Law, Private International Law, Comparative Law and European Private Law at the University of Bonn (Germany), where he also obtained his doctorate in 2006.

After completing his second state exam, Frank Wilbert worked from 2008 to 2010 for the law firm SJ Berwin in the practice group Financial Services and from 2010 to April 2019 for the law firm Dechert LLP also in the practice group Financial Services.

  • Advising numerous pension funds on direct and indirect investments in all relevant AI asset classes (legal due diligence, insurance supervisory law);
  • Advising several umbrella funds of German sponsors on target fund investments in asset classes infrastructure, private debt (legal due diligence, insurance supervisory law, acquisition under investment law);
  • Advising a CTA on indirect investments in infrastructure and private debt asset classes (legal due diligence); 
  • Advising German and international asset managers on the structuring, issuance and investments of German insurance companies/pension funds and other regulated investors in alternative investment funds (in particular in the areas of renewable energy, debt, infrastructure debt/equity, private equity and real estate);
  • Advising a pension fund association on the establishment and restructuring of Luxembourg investment platforms and advising on their target investments in international fund structures.
