Dr Silvia Hartmann advises on competition, trademark and copyright law - in a nutshell IP. Her work includes contentious areas, e.g. warnings from competitors or defending against alleged infringements of intellectual property rights as well as court proceedings. Similarly, Dr Hartmann can advise you both on strategic questions regarding your intellectual property rights and also on securing your rights. Her clients include young innovative start-ups, up to and including international groups. She also focuses on questions pertaining to IT law. Silvia Hartmann can, in particular, support you when devising contract models, in the area of developing, distributing and licensing of software and in the field of e-commerce. This trio is completed by a focus on data protection, an area which, at the latest since the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation, affects all companies - from small businesses to international groups. An important element here is the examination of and advice on new business concepts in the start-up sector under data protection law.
Dr Silvia Hartmann studied law in Constance (Germany), Valencia (Spain) and Berlin (Germany). During her legal training in Berlin she worked for a Berlin press publishing house and also for an international commercial law firm in the area of trademark and competition law in Hamburg (Germany). In the course of working on her doctorate, she dealt extensively with the protection offered by competition law rules, especially in the area of the internet and digital games. She was admitted to the German Bar in 2015 and gained professional experience during her doctorate by working for a boutique IP law firm and later full-time for a comparatively large medium-sized law firm also in the area of IP. It was during this time that she discovered her enthusiasm for litigation. She joined Luther’s Berlin office in 2018.
