Areas of practice

Vanessa Meireles advises and represents domestic and foreign clients in complex legal disputes. She specialises in international commercial and investment arbitration proceedings, with an emphasis on disputes in commercial and corporate law (e.g. post-M&A, joint ventures and international sales contracts), plant construction (notably power plants, such as hydroelectric power stations, solar power plants and offshore wind turbines), the energy and infrastructure sectors (e.g. oil and gas projects or long-term supply contracts) and investment disputes (investor-state disputes, ISDS). Due to her Brazilian roots, she is also particularly well versed in Latin American-related disputes. She has considerable experience acting as a party representative, arbitrator, secretary of arbitral tribunals and in-house counsel in arbitration proceedings under the relevant international rules (such as DIS, ICC, ICSID) and in ad hoc dispute board and expert determination procedures.

Vanessa Meireles studied law (UFSC, 2013) and business administration (UDESC, 2012) in Brazil and, in 2016, obtained her LL.M. degree in international dispute settlement (MIDS) in Switzerland. She is admitted to practise as a lawyer in Brazil (2013) and in Portugal (2020). In Germany, she is admitted to practise as a European lawyer. Before moving to Luther, Vanessa Meireles worked for 5 years as Senior Foreign Associate for a renowned dispute resolution boutique law firm in Cologne (Germany) and for 2 years as in-house counsel for a multinational engineering and construction firm in Brazil.

Vanessa Meireles is a citizen of Brazil and Germany and, in addition to Portuguese and German, speaks English, Spanish and French.
