Karen has been in legal practice for more than 20 years in Malaysia and Hong Kong. Her areas of practice are primarily corporate and commercial law where she has acted for Malaysian and international corporate clients on a wide range of corporate transactions and deals, including restructurings, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and take-overs. During her 11 years in Hong Kong, she specialised in investment funds law, representing clients on fund structuring and establishment. She has also advised financial institutions and capital market intermediaries in respect of various legal, regulatory and compliance issues affecting them.
Karen Kaur studied law at the University of Malaya and later obtained her Masters in Law at Harvard Law School. She is admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in West Malaysia and is a member of the Law Society of Hong Kong. She worked at the firm of Shook Lin & Bok in Kuala Lumpur from 1991 to 1997 and thereafter, as a partner from 2015 to 2020. Karen also practiced law in Deacons, Hong Kong from 2001 to 2012 where she became a partner in the financial services practice group. She joined Luther in June 2020.
