Dr. Martin A. Steger was born in 1982. He studied law at the University of Münster, Germany, and obtained his doctorate from the University of Cologne, Germany, with Prof. Dr Ehricke acting as his doctoral supervisor, for a thesis on the topic “About the growing independence of European agencies – Examination of the energy agency ACER and its role in the enactment of tertiary EU law by way of an example”. In 2008, Dr. Steger worked for a US commercial law firm in Portland,Oregon, USA and the branch of a German state bank in London, UK. He completed his traineeship at the German Federal Network Agency, the European Commission's Directorate General for Competition and Luther. In 2011, Dr Steger was admitted to the German Bar and, in 2013, became a member of Luther's Antitrust, Competition and Regulatory Service Line. He is a member of the association Arbeitskreis Europäische Integration e.V.
The focus of Dr Steger's work is on energy regulation and antitrust law. He advises companies from the energy regulation sector on all issues pertaining to regulatory and contract law. Furthermore, he advises on merger control proceedings before the European Commission and national cartel authorities as well as abuse of market power and administrative fine proceedings.
