At Luther he worked for some time at the then associated firm in Paris, Archibald Andersen.
For over 20 years Dr. Knott has been advising medium-sized and large business enterprises and financial investors on their investments into Germany (inbound) as well as into foreign countries (outbound). His area of practice includes M&A transactions in terms of acquisitions, equity investments or joint ventures as well as business restructurings. He is an active senior officer of both the International Bar Association (IBA) and the American Bar Association (ABA), the world’s leading professional bodies representing international and US-American lawyers’ interests. As a result of his international activities he has developed many personal contacts and relationships with advisers in many countries which he actively maintains by working together with them on international projects. Dr. Knott maintains close relations with advisers in North, Central and South America, the Middle East, Russia and the CIS states as well as in the new growth markets in sub-Saharan Africa. These contacts complement the relations existing through Luther’s international offices and networks.
His responsibilities at the IBA also allow Dr. Knott to be a frequent speaker on legal issues of a cross-border nature. He is also the editor-in-chief of a standard publication on business acquisitions. In addition, he reports on current topics in the business press, such as his recent report on US Supreme Court decisions with an impact on the liability risks for German companies doing business in the US.
Recent transactions in which Dr. Knott was the lead advisor include the German-law related advice and project coordination regarding the acquisition by a German automotive components supplier of a supplier based in the US; the disposal of a hospital outsourcing company by its US shareholder; and the acquisition of a German logistics engineering business by a French financial investor.
